UK Systems Society – history

Since 1975 the UK Systems Society (UKSS) has served as a way to increase awareness of systems thinking and to share experiences of practice. It provides vital meetings and publications to exchange ideas.

UKSS serves as a community for academics, practitioners, researchers and anyone interested in systems philosophy, theory, methodologies, models and practical applications. The society emphasises transdisciplinary approaches to understanding and addressing complex problems in such areas as organisations, society, management, policy and beyond- drawing from traditions such as soft systems methodologies, cybernetics and related fields.

Mission: Committed to developing and promoting systems-based ideas for the 21st century, fostering dialogue between theory and practice

Activities: It organises conferences and workshops (e.g. events focused on making systems work, breaking down silos, or exploring complex issues), supports networking among systems thinkers and encourages the application of systems approaches across domains.

Publications: It publishes Systemist, https://systemist.online, the Official Journal of the UKSS, which features papers from various perspectives in systems thinking and practice (hard, soft, philosophical, or applied)

Membership: Is open to anyone with an interest in systems sciences. It provides a community for like-minded individuals
